1 - Choose a nice profile picture, preferably one where you're smiling. Don't use any logo, just your face. Then type in the information section something that identifies you and captures the attention of other users.
2 - Choose an attractive background image. Remember that without content will not get more followers, no matter how good the background image.
3 - Write content in your twitter account. Put links to your blog articles, photographs of events, interesting videos, links to other websites or retweets. Write down everything you think might be useful and want to read your followers
4 - Use hashtags in your tweets. So your comments will be easier to find by other users. Try to make tweets frequently.
5 - Follow people who tweet about topics that interest you. Also follow users who follow these people. Thus, you get more followers. The next step is to engage in conversations with others, respond and retweet to their messages.
6 - Make marketing of your Twitter profile. Put your tweets on facebook and your blog or web site and ask your readers to follow you on Twitter. Make surveys or contests to attract attention. If you have a mailing list, send an email asking them to follow you on Twitter.
